Running a small business is always a challenge but even more so when you make every single product by hand in small batches. I always endeavour to keep a small number of products in stock available for a quick purchase but sometimes I have a sudden, unexpected rush on a particular item and I run out. Naturally I try to anticipate certain peaks throughout the year but without a crystal ball, it can sometimes be a bit of a guessing game!
The guessing game continues when we launch products like our Christmas gift boxes or when we introduce new products. I have no idea what the expected sales level will be and how many we will actually sell.
Now first and foremost of everything I do is to serve you in a speedy manner and hopefully exceed your expectations. I can’t ever compete with the likes of Amazon with their super-quick turnaround but I always do my best. And whilst I wish I was superhuman, the reality is that sadly I’m not.
These days there is only me to do – well everything! And that includes making your products, bottling/pouring, labeling, and getting to them to the post office. Of course that’s in addition to all the other small business hats I have to wear which I won’t bore you with but is essential to keep everything running smoothly. Simply put, if something goes wrong it’s because I’ve dropped a clanger somewhere!!
Back in my old days of being a Retail Director, I learned to avoid the mistake of “over-promising and under-delivering”. In other words; always be transparent, honest and tell people upfront about what to expect and by when.
Which brings me nicely to the whole point of this article. If you’re reading this it’s probably because I have directed you from a special made-to-order or a pre-order product. Please read the boxes below which tell you what this means and how it will affect your order with us.
TERMS OF PRE-ORDERING: Payment will be taken up front as per usual to secure your order. Just fill your basket and checkout as per normal. On the pre-order product page there will be an estimated date that the product will be ready by. If this changes, you will be notified by email.
If you’ve ordered multiple products, your order will NOT be posted until ALL of your products are ready for dispatch (this includes pre-order AND normal stock items). Therefore we will be sending you ONE parcel with all your products in. This reduces multiple parcels going to the same household which is better for both the environment and helps us keep our delivery charges as low as possible. The caveat to that is parcels over 2kg in weight will be sent separately due to cost.
If any products in your basket are URGENT, you will need to place a SEPARATE order. Orders that do not include a pre-ordered product will be sent as per usual using Royal Mail 2nd class service.
